The Arcane Pen and Key is an independent imprint based in the South West of England. It publishes two writers: Matthew Palmer, whose crime novels are set in cathedral closes, Fenland planning offices and the drained marshes of the Gwent Levels, and Thomas Cradock, whose historical novels range from the Canadian frontier in 1812 to the Norse world at the edge of myth.
The name comes from the seal: a quill and a key crossed between two columns. The pen writes the story down. The key is for the reader, and for the locked rooms, sealed crypts and suppressed ledgers the stories turn on.
